The West Side Story musical, a performance that has received many Tony awards and has won thousands of viewers' hearts around the world, will be presented on the eve of Valentine's Day at the Dubai Opera. Set based on the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet in the scenery of the New York Upper West Side, the play tells about the irreconcilable enmity of two gangs "Jets" and "Sharks".
First, a Broadway musical was staged based on the original novel by Arutra Loren, and then a film was shot with the music of Leonard Bernstein in collaboration with Steve Sondheim, including such masterpieces as I Feel Pretty, America, Maria and Tonight. The musical is attended by 36 actors and performers, and the full cast of the play totals 80 people.
The production of Joey McKinley, noted by many awards, goes on a world tour. The musical preserves the original choreography of Jerome Robbins, which is just as pleasing to the eye and lively tells the plot as it was fifty years ago.
