Dior Couture spring-summer 2018 show was held in Paris

The scenery for the recent show of the Dior Couture spring-summer 2018 collection was black and white figures that created optical illusions against a background of bold images.

The history of haute couture is closely connected with the development of contemporary art. A fashion designer is a true artist. Even the word "workshop" has several meanings: not only an art studio, but also an atelier for making clothes. The real workshop of the creator is always his imagination.

It is this space - between dream and reality - that is explored by art director Maria Grazia Curie. In Haute Couture, her wildest dreams and experiments with techniques, materials and forms found herself. Caught in the heart of surrealism, she was able to add many unusual effects, surprises and optical illusions to the Haute Couture spring-summer 2018 collection.

Creating this collection, designed mainly in black and white, Maria Grazia Curie also drew inspiration from surrealism.

The cell - one of the keynotes of surrealistic works - turns into a structure of black fabric, enveloping the body and emphasizing the interaction of transparent materials. A fishing net of silver thread merges with soft thick velvet.

The main source of inspiration for the collection is the charm of Leonor Fini, an artist who moved to Paris from Italy, who had once organized her first exhibition in the Christian Dior gallery, with whom they became good friends. She often chose Dior outfits for her eccentric appearances. This woman was a living embodiment of that era, the idea of independence and development, using all available opportunities. In her case, clothes acted as an instrument of self-affirmation and the creation of their own image, both in public and in private space.

We are talking not only about evening, but also about daytime looks, the forms of which Christian Dior transformed, using men's fabrics, like Maria Grazia Curie in her collection of jackets that renew the traditional Dior silhouettes in combination with contrasting skirts.
