One-third of UAE residents spy on their spouses

36 percent of Internet users in the United Arab Emirates monitor their spouses on the Internet.

A poll by Kaspersky Lab showed that 79 percent of respondents in the UAE believe that partners should have personal space both in real life and online, and 8 out of 10 respondents value their relationship more than privacy.

62 percent of respondents said they provide PINs and passwords from their devices to partners, and 32 percent allow their satellite to unlock devices with a fingerprint.

36 percent of surveyed Internet users in the UAE admitted to spying on their partners on the Internet. 45 percent of them called their relationship "unstable."

The study also demonstrated that 35 percent of people in complex relationships admit that their companion could invade their personal space. In stable relationships, this figure is 19 percent.

The Kaspersky Lab report identified the main types of content that people hide from their partners:

  • Messages they send to other people
  • Personal spending information
  • Personal files and browsing history
