Dubai insurance now covers cancer prevention and treatment costs

The first government initiative has been launched in Dubai, under which a compulsory health insurance plan covers the prevention and treatment of three types of cancer.

Dubai Health Authority (DHA) announced on Sunday, December 10, the launch of the Basmah initiative. Thus, DHA has become the first government agency in the world to provide a full range of screening and treatment services for three types of cancer as part of a core health insurance plan.

Basmah is an initiative of the DHA funding department and extends to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and cervical cancer.

DHA Chairman and CEO Humeid Al Kutami said: “In accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, DHA aims to provide the highest quality medical services for all who lives in Dubai, according to the strategy plan for 2021, this initiative will help in early diagnosis, because screening is now part of the main plan, in addition, we will be able to provide financial and emotional support to patients, suffering yuschimi of these three types of cancer This is possible thanks to the support of our partners, from both the public and private sectors Our goal -.. to ensure a high level of quality care for patients and support them in the best possible way. Dr. Haydar Al Yusuf, Director of the Finance Department, explained that screening will be carried out according to criteria that include several factors, such as the person’s age. If one of the three types of cancer is detected during this screening, DHA is automatically notified. They then provide appropriate treatment for the patient.

Earlier, the finance department added screening services for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and newborns as part of compulsory health insurance. In the future, the department is considering the inclusion of other diseases, for example, hepatitis C.
