Constitution Day of Russia

In the Soviet Union, it has become a tradition to consider the day of the adoption of the Constitution a public holiday. The first Soviet Constitution was approved on December 5, 1936 and has been in force for over forty years. All these years, Constitution Day was considered the day of December 5th.

On October 7, 1987, the new Constitution of the USSR was adopted, and accordingly the red day of the calendar changed: now it has become October 7, and not December 5.

In modern Russia, this tradition was continued. On December 12, 1993, the Constitution of the Russian Federation was adopted at a referendum, and since 1994, Presidential Decree declared December 12 to be a public holiday.

Nine years have passed since that memorable day when the citizens of Russia adopted the new Constitution of the country during the popular vote. This was a turning point, since the new basic law established completely different than before, the foundations of the political and economic system. The country had prospects for building a new statehood on the principles of federalism.

The years that have passed since the adoption of the new Constitution have contained many large and small events. Russia has survived crises and booms, losses and gains. For the first time without revolutions and upheavals, the leaders of the state, the Presidents of the Russian Federation, were replaced. And this change occurred strictly according to the Constitution.

Russians in 2006 celebrated the Constitution Day of Russia for the ninth time. Exactly nine years ago, on December 12, 1993, the basic law, according to which more than 140 million Russians live today, was approved by the results of a popular referendum. And on September 14, 1994, the then first president of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, signed a decree declaring December 12 as Constitution Day.

As experts in constitutional law, the Russian Constitution is a “working and working document,” and not a collection of lavish and ornate declarations that have little to do with the real life of the country.

In accordance with the current Constitution, Russia is a social state whose policy is aimed at creating conditions ensuring a decent life and free human development.

Celebrating the Constitution Day as an important political event in the history of our country, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United Arab Emirates, Andrei Mikhailovich Zakharov, expressed our sincere wishes for success in the realization of the proclaimed rights, good health, happiness and prosperity.

As Dr. Tarek, Ahmed Al Heydan, who has been Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Russia for more than five years, is now the current Assistant Secretary of the United Arab Emirates for Political Affairs, the Russian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates makes a great contribution to strengthening interstate ties. In this regard, the head of state expressed gratitude to Andrei Mikhailovich Zakharov for an active and active position regarding the development of the partnership between Russia and the UAE.
