Visit of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan to the UAE

On February 16-17, 2008, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov, paid a working visit to the UAE. During the visit, meetings were held with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, the ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Minhamed Al-Mohammed bahn UAE President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Executive Director of Dubai World Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.

The visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan contributed to the deepening of the confidential dialogue between the two countries on pressing issues of international and regional policy and the desire of the two parties to implement the agreements reached during the working visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in November 2007 to the UAE, as well as the items of the "Action Plan: Kazakhstan -OAE ".

At a meeting with the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, K. Massimov, conveyed to the Emirate leader the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, N. Nazarbayev, to visit Kazakhstan. The head of the UAE gratefully accepted the invitation and noted that "Kazakhstan in its economic and political potential occupies a leading position among the countries of the Central Asian region." The President of the UAE also noted that the Emirate side is ready to consider all the proposals of the Kazakhstan side on various economic projects.

During the meeting, it was noted that issues related to the implementation of projects on the petrochemical complex and the construction of an aluminum smelter are becoming practical. In addition, the parties are considering the possible participation of emirate companies in the development of coal deposits in Kazakhstan.

During the negotiations in Dubai with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, promising areas of bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism, the development of infrastructure of the city of Astana and the resort areas of Kazakhstan were discussed. Following the results of the meetings, two memorandums were signed: "On mutual understanding in the field of construction of a petrochemical complex in Western Kazakhstan between the emirate IPIC, NC KazMunaiGas and Sat & Co (Kazakhstan)" and "On mutual understanding in the development of bauxite deposits and the construction of an aluminum plant in the Kustanai region between the emirate company "Mubadala" and the Social and Entrepreneurial Corporation "Tobol" (SEC "Tobol"). " In addition, the Emirate side expressed interest in establishing an Islamic Bank in Kazakhstan, and also discussed the possibility of signing the Double Taxation Convention between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the UAE and the intergovernmental Agreement on mutual protection and promotion of investments.
