At the new Dubai Observatory, it will be possible to buy fragments of a meteorite 4.5 billion years old

A new astronomical center in Dubai will open this year. It will be possible to purchase fragments of meteorites, whose age is 4.5 billion years.

Al Thuraya Astronomy Center with the largest telescope in the UAE will be inaugurated at the 46th National Day of the UAE in the Mushrif Park in Dubai on December 2. This was announced by the director of the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG) Hassan Al Hariri, who runs the astronomy center.

“We already had a preliminary launch. But the grand opening will be held in December after the arrival of the main telescope, ”Al Hariri said.

Using the country's largest telescope and other unique objects, the center will allow visitors to explore the science of astronomy in a simple and attractive form, the head of the center said.

Visitors to the center will also have the opportunity to see, touch and even buy fragments of meteorites, whose age is 4.5 billion years.

“We have a rare collection of rocks that were part of the formation of the solar system and other astronomical events. These oldest parts of meteorites will be a great attraction for visitors. Some of them were found here in Jebel Ali, ”Al Hariri said.

He said DAG plans to launch a separate meteorite center for its vast collection of meteorite rocks.

While most museums and observatories have barred visitors from touching exhibits and telescopes, the Al Thuraya Astronomy Center, by contrast, encourages people to “touch and feel.”

The entire project is valued at 50 million dirhams ($ 13.6 million). The municipality of Dubai, which built the building, transferred its DAG to management.
