An athlete from the UAE died in a training session in London

A Paralympic man from the United Arab Emirates received fatal injuries at a training site in London.

The 36-year-old Paralympic from the UAE, Abdullah Hayai, died after hitting a metal pole at a training site in London, according to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. The athlete was preparing for the World Athletics Championships in London, which begins on Friday.

IPC notes that emergency services arrived on a call shortly after the incident and recorded the death of a man. The Hayei family in the UAE was informed of the incident.

Last September, Abdullah made his debut at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he finished sixth in javelin throwing.

The IPC announced that the opening ceremony of the championship on Friday will begin with a moment of silence in memory of the dead athlete.
