Etihad Airways will become the largest operator of Dreamliners

Etihad Airways has announced its intention to acquire ten more Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners passenger airliners, making it the largest airline operator in the world to operate the latest Boeing aircraft. In addition to acquiring the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, Etihad Airways ordered two more Boeing 777 Freighters, which it needed due to the increase in cargo transportation operations.

The total cost of aircraft ordered by the capital's airline is US $ 2.8 billion. An additional purchase of Dreamliners means that between 2014 and 2019 the airline will receive 41 Boeing 787s. Also, the airline’s management is considering the acquisition and has the right to purchase 25 more Boeing 787s.

The acquisition of two additional Boeing 777 Freighters will bring the total number of aircraft of this model to 21. Moreover, 18 of this number are passenger, 3 are cargo. The Etihad Airways cargo fleet currently consists of two vessels of the A300-600Fs type, two - A330-200Fs and two - MD11F.

Passenger airliners Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners can carry up to 300 passengers each at a distance of 14,800 km. Initially, Etihad Airways will use them for flights to Dublin, Frankfurt, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Nagoya, Delhi and Istanbul.
